Ella Dunbar Temple
She was an exemplary woman who was born on June 10, 1918, she had several important achievements behind her, being highlighted the fact that she was the first woman to hold a university chair in Peru, this being that of the National University of San Marcos, which It was, in turn, the university where she obtained her degree as a lawyer and a doctorate with her thesis "La descendencia de Huayna Cápac"; In turn, due to her career at UNMSM, while working as a teacher in the Faculty of Letters, she managed to inaugurate chairs of "history of Peruvian institutions", "history of geography" and founded the "Peruvian history society"
Ella Dunbar Temple was a female pioneer in different disciplines in
which she worked, this marking fundamental milestones in the development of her
career. She was the first woman to hold a university chair in Peru, as well as
the first professional historian and numerary in the "National Academy of
History". She stood out for being the first woman on the Board
of Directors of the Lima Bar Association and the first Substitute Superior
Member of the Court of Lima, this being highlighted because the woman was not
yet considered a practicing citizen.
In the international arena, she was the first Latin American in the
"Royal Academy of History" in Madrid, also the first woman to join
the International Federation of Bolivarian Societies.
These achievements paved the way for women to occupy different positions, which were previously denied to them.
Ella Dunbar Temple was also a writer, bringing to light 4 books.

Unfortunately, she passed away on February 20, 1998. Her remains were buried in the San Ezequiel barracks along with her husband, who was also a very important professor in the history of UNMSM; Ella Dunbar Temple had such an impact on society with her findings that she was recognized on March 8, 2002 by the MIMP, obtaining the "order of merit for women" award, this due to her outstanding figure representing self-improvement of the Peruvian woman at a time when they did not have the right to vote, being the great example of an outstanding woman who helped society as we know it today.
